Security forces have strengthened security across Yola, Adamawa State, ahead of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s visit on Thursday. The Shettima visits Adamawa programme follows the death of former governor and elder statesman Bamanga Tukur.
The Adamawa State Police Command deployed additional personnel and operational units to strategic locations as Shettima prepares to lead a Federal Government delegation to condole with the state government, the Adamawa Emirate Council and the family of late elder statesman Bamanga Tukur.
Shettima Visits Adamawa Under Tight Security
According to the police command, the deployment includes personnel from the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence Unit, Traffic Unit and various divisional police formations.
The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, also directed officers to carry out stop-and-search operations and traffic diversions around parts of the state capital during the visit.
Police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and remain vigilant. He also advised members of the public to report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels.
Shettima to Pay Condolence Visit
Shettima’s visit follows the death of Bamanga Tukur. Tukur died on September 12 at the age of 90. The family buried him in Yola the following day according to Islamic rites.
Tukur was a former governor of the old Gongola State. He also served as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and Minister of Industries. His death has drawn condolences from political leaders and other prominent Nigerians.
Security personnel are expected to maintain a visible presence around major routes and locations connected to the visit. The police have also called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with officers throughout the period. These measures are intended to support smooth movement and maintain public safety.
The police command said the enhanced security measures will help ensure a peaceful and hitch-free visit. They will also protect lives and property across the state capital.
