Ukraine strikes Russia with a fresh wave of drone attacks deep inside the country on Saturday, September 12, as Russian forces also carried out overnight strikes across several Ukrainian cities.
The latest Ukraine strikes Russia exchange highlights the growing use of long-range attacks between the two sides, with both countries increasingly targeting infrastructure and strategic facilities away from the front lines.
Ukrainian Drones Strike Targets in Russia
Ukrainian drones targeted the Russian cities of Tolyatti in the Samara region and Taganrog in the Rostov region during the early hours of Saturday.

In Tolyatti, reports indicated that an industrial facility was hit and a fire broke out. Russian local officials said one person was injured and later hospitalized, while no deaths were initially reported.
Reports also said fires broke out in Taganrog, including around an industrial facility and an airfield. The exact extent of the damage and the specific targets could not immediately be independently verified.
The strikes came days after Ukraine carried out what officials described as its deepest drone operation of the war. The attack reached energy facilities in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets region, nearly 2,000 miles from Ukraine.
Russia Launches Overnight Attacks on Ukraine
At the same time, Russian forces launched another wave of attacks against Ukraine.
Russian drones and missiles struck several areas, with casualties reported in Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih and Odesa. An overnight drone attack killed two people in Zaporizhzhia. Another person died in Kryvyi Rih, according to local officials. Odesa and surrounding areas also reported dozens of injuries following what officials described as a massive attack.
The attacks come as Russia continues to intensify its aerial campaign against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Ukrainian officials have warned about Moscow’s increasing use of drones. They said faster jet-powered models are putting more pressure on air-defence systems and civilian areas.
The latest strikes show that the war is expanding beyond the traditional front lines. Ukraine strikes Russia with long-range drones, while Moscow continues its own aerial campaign against Ukrainian cities.
