Sowore Attack in Ekiti, AAC Raises Kidnap Alarm

The Sowore attack in Ekiti has raised fresh security concerns after the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, reportedly came under attack at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, October 30.

The activist announced the incident through a post on his official Facebook page. He alleged that suspected political thugs stormed the restaurant and attacked him and members of his team.

In a subsequent post, his campaign team raised an alarm over his whereabouts, claiming that armed men had kidnapped him. The development prompted calls for urgent intervention from security agencies.

Sowore Attack in Ekiti, AAC Calls for Immediate Security Intervention

The Sowore attack in Ekiti prompted the African Action Congress to demand an urgent investigation into the incident.

In a statement signed by Abdulkareem Musa, spokesperson for the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign, the party described the situation as a serious security concern.

The campaign said the incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on Friday. It also called on the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to establish what happened and ensure the candidate’s safety.

The party warned against political violence as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue. It maintained that political disagreements should not result in attacks or intimidation.

The campaign also demanded appropriate security measures and accountability for anyone involved in the reported incident.

Deji Adeyanju Raises Concern Over Police Orderly

Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju also reacted to the development, expressing concern over reports surrounding the attack.

Adeyanju alleged that individuals involved in the incident disarmed the police officer attached to Sowore. He called on security agencies to investigate the report and ensure the safety of the AAC candidate.

However, the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and kidnapping remain unclear. As of the latest available reports, the Ekiti State Police Command had not independently confirmed the abduction.

Sowore, who is also the founder of SaharaReporters, is seeking the Nigerian presidency in the 2027 general election under the AAC platform.

The incident comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the next general elections. It has also renewed concerns about the safety of political candidates and their supporters during campaign activities.

Further details about the identities of the alleged attackers and the circumstances surrounding the incident are still emerging. Security agencies are expected to clarify the situation as more information becomes available.
