The Neymar Santos debt has been settled after NR Sports helped the Brazilian club clear a €2 million debt owed to Monaco. The payment helped Santos lift its FIFA transfer ban. It also opened the door for new signings, including Philippe Coutinho.
How the Neymar Santos debt was cleared
Santos incurred the Neymar Santos debt during a dispute with Monaco over Jean Lucas’ 2023 transfer. The outstanding payment had led to a FIFA transfer ban, preventing Santos from registering new players.
According to Brazilian media reports, NR Sports provided about €2 million to settle the debt. The amount was roughly R$12 million at the time.
In return, Santos reportedly gave the company advertising rights on several areas of the team’s kit. The deal came at an important time for the club as it looked to strengthen its squad.
Coutinho deal follows
With the transfer ban lifted, Santos moved quickly in the market. The club brought in several experienced players and also reached an agreement with Philippe Coutinho.
Coutinho, 34, had been without a club since leaving Vasco da Gama in February. Neymar reportedly pushed for his former Brazil teammate to join Santos. He also helped push the deal forward.
Coutinho’s arrival adds another big name to the Santos squad. The club has recently welcomed players such as Rodinei, Arthur, Lima and Everton Cebolinha.
Neymar is currently recovering from a thigh injury. He has also become increasingly influential in Santos’ activities away from the pitch. His involvement has helped the club overcome its transfer restrictions. It has also strengthened a squad looking to improve its position in Brazilian football.
The development could give Santos more options in the transfer market. The club had faced restrictions because of the unpaid debt, making the settlement particularly important. With the ban lifted, Santos can now register new players and continue rebuilding its squad. Coutinho’s arrival could also bring more experience and creativity to the team as the club pushes for better results.
