Doris Ogala Remanded Over Cyberbullying Case

Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos over alleged cyberbullying, cyberstalking and attempted extortion involving Pastor Chris Okafor.

Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered her remand on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, pending the hearing of her bail application.

The actress appeared before the court following charges filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. She pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

The case has drawn public attention. Activist Omoyele Sowore has also criticised the decision to remand the actress.

What the Prosecution Alleged Against Doris Ogala

According to court proceedings reported, prosecution counsel Tolulope Mokolu alleged that Ogala committed the offences between September 2024 and March 2026.

The prosecution accused her of publishing intimate photographs of Okafor on social media without his consent. It also alleged that she circulated videos, recordings and electronic messages containing information she allegedly knew to be false.

Furthermore, the prosecution claimed that Ogala threatened to publish additional intimate and damaging material about the cleric unless he compensated her or bought her a house.

The charges relate to provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

However, these claims remain allegations before the court. Ogala has denied the charges, and the court has not convicted her of any offence.

Court Fixes Date for Bail Hearing

Following Ogala’s plea, the prosecution asked the court to remand her while the case proceeded. Mokolu explained that he had only received her bail application that day and needed time to study it before filing a response.

Defence counsel N. C. Atulomah opposed the request and urged the judge to release the actress on bail. He also told the court that she was a governorship candidate of a political party in Abia State and assured the judge that she would attend future proceedings if released.

Justice Aluko ruled that the defence had not presented sufficient grounds to justify her immediate release at that stage. However, he ordered an accelerated hearing of the bail application.

The judge adjourned the case until Friday, October 30, 2026, for the bail hearing. Ogala is expected to remain at Kirikiri pending the court’s decision.

Meanwhile, Sowore’s criticism has added to public debate surrounding the case. The next hearing will determine whether the actress can leave custody while the legal proceedings continue.

The allegations remain unproven, and the case is still before the court.
